Aga Khan Museum: Moon Writing Workshop with Laboni Islam and Kelley Aitken (SOLD OUT)

Immerse yourself in The Moon: A Voyage Through Time, an exhibition that explores our enduring fascination with this enchanting orb in the sky and looks at the role it has played in faith, science, and the arts. Take inspiration from a range of objects, both historic and contemporary, and from readings that reference the moon. Participate in a series of dynamic, directed writing activities and generate your own poetry and prose, independently and collaboratively.

Laboni Islam was born in Canada to Bangladeshi parents. She is the recipient of the Janice Colbert Poetry Award (2014) and Marina Nemat Award (2016), and her poem “Lunar Landing, 1966” was shortlisted for the CBC Poetry Prize (2017). Her poetry has been anthologized in The Unpublished City (Book*hug, 2017), which was curated by Dionne Brand and shortlisted for the Toronto Book Awards (2018). She teaches at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Aga Khan Museum, animating the gap between art and young audiences.

Kelley Aitken is an author and artist who has exhibited in Canada and Ecuador. Her work can be found in many private collections and is also represented in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank. Aitken has taught art for more than 25 years, offering private classes and workshops, and running art programs for community-based agencies in Calgary and Toronto. She co-leads an annual plein air workshop in France, and teaches drawing, mixed media, and watercolour at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
