New Members orientation program – First Light - Fall 2015

The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Toronto Centre, invites new members and their family who are also members to join an orientation get together – First Light.

If you have joined RASC Toronto Centre in the years of 2014 and 2015 and have yet to attend an orientation-get-together, we would like to formally welcome you to the society and to provide orientation about the activities and opportunities within the Club. We shall help you get started with observing, learning, sharing and enjoying astronomy! Above all, let’s get to know each other. Let us answer questions and address curiosities about the club and discuss anything related to our hobby!

We shall meet three Tuesdays in November 2015. The dates are Nov. 3rd, 10th and 24th, from 7:30pm to 9:30 pm(approx). We will have a meet-and-greet on Nov 3rd from 7-7:30 pm.

Main topics will be orientation to RASC Toronto Centre activities, “Astronomy on a budget”, astrophotography, logging and sketching your observations, tour of the largest telescope in Canada, observing if weather permits and more!

If weather permits, we will look through one or two of the small telescopes housed at the David Dunlap Observatory, or we may have a chance to observe with the largest telescope in Canada, which is housed in the dome of the David Dunlap Observatory (DDO)! Yes! DDO is the venue for the First Light program. If the weather is in a bad mood, we shall still be able to have a close look at the telescope and learn about it! The David Dunlap Observatory is located at 123 Hillsview Drive, Richmond Hill, ON, L4C 1T3. More details on how to get there are here.

The program is free and we ask you to register on our First Light registration page. Please include your full name and the full names of the family members attending with you. We shall send you a confirmation email.
