DDO Saturday Star Talk
Star talk nights offer great talks by great speakers on astronomy, space science and sometimes, science fiction. You'll also have a chance to tour the Observatory and (weather permitting) check out the night sky through a variety of telescopes set up on the lawn and through the big scope in the Main Dome. If the weather gods are angry, you can check out the (virtual) night sky in our new Skylab. Star talk nights run regardless of weather conditions.

August Astronomy Public Tour at the University of Toronto
Proudly presented by the U of T Graduate Astronomy Students' Association. For the month of August, we welcome Dan Taranu, a Ph.D. candidate in his final year of studies to discuss the stark reality of human space exploration. The longest journey ever undertaken by humans beyond our own planet has been to our nearest neighbour - the moon, just 400,000 kilometres away. Even mankind's most distant space probes are now 'merely' 18 billion kilometres from Earth. But far beyond even these enormous distances lies an immense, unexplored galaxy with billions of stars.

August Dark Sky Star Party
Want to learn to image? Want to see galaxies and the milky way naked eye? Want to do it less than an hour from Toronto? Then join us for our monthly Dark Sky Star Party at the Long Sault Conservation area. We meet around dusk once a month in the parking lot for views only seen in dark sky conditions. Check our homepage for Go/ No-Go calls as this event is weather dependant. We hold this event on the first clear night of our week-long window, so the date and time are determined closer to.

Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower
Look to the east after midnight and you should be able to see 20 meteors per hour in the constellation Aquarius. The moon may hang around for the show, hiding some of the fainter meteors. Though the shower lasts for nearly a month, the best time to view the Southern Delta Aquarids is at their peak on July 28 & 29.
